Theory of Evolution a Fearless Christian Perspective
Just like you, the school presented the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. I guess I am a rebel because I never believed in evolution. When I was in 10th grade, I had several discussions with my biology teacher, who claimed to be a Christian who believed in evolution. At 16 I did not know enough to present a good argument. I simply did not believe in evolution. But I believed in God.
I instinctively knew they did not fit together. Now I am older, and I hope a little wiser. So, here’s what I would say to my biology teacher now.

Let’s Look at the Theory of Evolution From a Christian Perspective
In Darwin’s theory of evolution, the first man was not perfect. He had evolved from a fish to a monkey to a human. In this theory, Adam was never perfect, there was no Garden of Eden and no need for a God. Man came into existence through accidental evolution. Adam would have been only one of many humans, and death was already part of life. No serpent needed.
The Bible paints a vastly different picture. Genesis depicts Adam as perfect. He and Eve lived in the beautiful Garden of Eden with no death, no sickness, no corruption. Adam and Eve were still in the presence of God. (Genesis 3:8)
Once Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit, things changed drastically. The forbidden fruit introduced death and corruption into the world. God barred Adam’s access to the Tree of Life, placing cherubim and a flaming sword there. (Genesis 3:24) This is referred to as the FALL.

Was the Fall Planned by God ?

One of the most startling things I find when I speak to other Christians is: they don’t believe the fall was Part of God’s plan. Yet, they say God is all knowing. If God has foreknowledge of all things, then of course he knew that Adam and Eve would eventually eat the forbidden fruit. Let’s face it, He is God. He knows everything from the beginning to the end.
God designated Jesus as our Savior before the foundation of the world, according to 1 Peter 1:2 and Revelation 13:8. If Adam and Eve had not fallen, we would not have needed a savior.
Therefore, God had knowledge of and made plans to address the issue caused by the fall of Adam and Eve even before the earth was created.
How I taught My Children About Evil
When my children were 2 or 3, they were curious about the stove I cooked on. They wanted to touch the burner. I would say “burn/hot” and they would back away. However, shortly they returned and waited for me to turn away. I knew what was coming and sure enough, I heard the cry and the tears flowed. The tiny fingers were red and blistering.
I had aloe vera ready to soothe the little fingers. The next time I said burn or hot, my children knew what those words meant, and they would back away. They had learned from their own experience. They did not want to make the same mistake again.
Unfortunately, I have discovered the best way to learn about anything is from experience. I suspect Heavenly Father is aware of this truth. He obviously wants us to learn about evil not just in an abstract form, but through gut wrenching, in your face, practical experience.
Therefore, I know God has a reason for us to learn about evil or He would not have arranged for the fall and provided a savior to correct the effects of the Fall.

The Effects of The Fall

After the fall, sin, sickness, suffering, sorrow, and death became the common lot of man.
But the all-powerful, all-knowing God provided a solution. A way for men to overcome death and corruption and return to His presence. The solution was for God himself to come to earth and through His own suffering atone for all the corruption brought about by the fall.
This was the plan from the beginning. Therefore, even though God is a God of judgment is also a God of great tender mercies. We are his children. He loves us. He expects us to learn and to grow from our experiences on earth.
Just as I needed to teach my children about hot/burn, God apparently needs us to learn about evil from our own experience.
Theory of Evolution and Christianity
In Darwin’s theory of evolution, humanity does not need to be saved from the fall. If we do not need to be saved, then we don’t need a Savior. Thus, we have no need for Jesus Christ.
Of course, we also have no hope of either forgiveness or resurrection.
Therefore, my conclusion is: If you believe Jesus Christ is your Redeemer from the fall, you cannot also believe in evolution.
